Birdwatching in West Bend

With so many beautifully preserved natural areas and recognition as a Bird City Wisconsin, West Bend is a perfect place to birdwatch. Here are a few of the most popular stops for birders.

Lac Lawrann Conservancy – Inside this 137-acre nature preserve, birdwatchers can discover more than 200 species of birds. Amongst the lakes, ponds and wetlands you can spot ducks, geese, heron and grebe.  Search the protected hardwood forest, tall grass prairie and red pine plantation for flycatchers, woodpeckers and warblers and scan the skies for raptors like hawks, owls and osprey.

Regner Park – This popular city park has woodlands, ponds, open grasslands and a beach, making it a suitable home for both waterfowl and land birds. Enjoy winding nature trails throughout the 90-acre park.

Glacial Blue Hills Recreation Area – The landscape of this 208-acre native hardwood forest was carved by glaciers so get ready to experience diverse terrain and amazing scenery as you birdwatch along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

Eisenbahn State Trail – Five miles of this beautiful trail run through West Bend with a level grade and smooth, paved surface, making it an easy stroll for birders. You’ll traverse quiet farmland, residential neighborhoods and scenic waterways along your journey.
