Autumn color on the water Ridge Run
West Bend is a wonderful place to enjoy a relaxing fall walk. The community is home to a beautiful selection of wooded parks and trails that are close to lodging and dining. Some of our walking trails are good for a shorter jaunt; other paths connect to a route that spans the state. Here are a few of our favorite places to stroll this autumn.
One of the largest nature centers in southeast Wisconsin is located near West Bend. Riveredge Nature Center is a 370-acre property that’s laced with more than 10 miles of trails that flank a full mile of Milwaukee River shoreline. Explore beautiful native prairies and maple forests.
This 25-mile trail will take you from the heart of West Bend into the beautiful countryside. It’s popular with bikers but also a nice place for an easy stroll. The trail is built on a former railroad bed, which gives a clue to its name. “Eisenbahn” is the German word for railroad.
On the northwest side of West Bend, you’ll find a hardwood forest that’s ideal for a relaxing fall walk. The Glacial Blue Hills Recreation Area is home to some rugged trails and a stretch of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. The park also has two self-guided orienteering courses for people interested in testing their skills with a map and compass.
This picturesque park is located on the west side of the community. It’s a popular recreation spot throughout the year, and its easily accessible nature trails make it a good choice for families seeking a fall walk. Leashed dogs are permitted in the park.
